Council Planning Application
East Zone: Aquatic Centre
The Council's proposal involves a major reduction in family and leisure water space, with the design largely focused on lane swimming. Despite this, the proposed scheme involves a 25m pool with lanes of 2m width. Sport England guidance typically recommends 2.5m lanes for competition pools.
The planned children's leisure pool is far smaller and simpler than the existing facility and does not include many of the play and interactive features found in modern leisure centres.
We propose:
A 50m divisible competition pool - see below for video on Myrtha Pools patented technology. The pool would allow for: training, galas, masters, triathlon training)
1m to 10m diving boards and platforms (training and events).
Learn-to-swim / teaching pool space, plus warm-up and lane-programming flexibility
Family water play and splash zone (slides, interactive features, shallow play)
FlowRider(™) or similar wave machine for bodyboarding and surfing (with supervised sessions) - see below for FlowRider video
Aquatics disciplines: swimming, para-swimming, water polo, artistic swimming, lifesaving, diving, aqua fitness, rehab.
Flumes and additional features would be designed and safety-checked at the detailed design stage.
